EBACE 2009: Honeywell Zing Increases Helo Uptime And Safety

Honeywell Has Launched Zing Condition-Based Maintenance For Helos

"The Honeywell Zing portfolio offers comprehensive and 'intelligent' health monitoring, that provides operators with up-to-date information to perform condition-based maintenance rather than interval-based or run-to-failure maintenance," said Mike Cuff, Honeywell Vice President, Helicopter and Surface Systems. Through embedded sensors and data analysis, Zing monitors critical components and identifies maintenance procedures before they become evident, helping avoid unplanned maintenance or repair at remote locations. "By continually monitoring the aircraft's operational systems and identifying the health status, Zing improves aircraft readiness and availability," Cuff said. "Operators who use this system gain a significant advantage - lower operational costs."

The Zing portfolio includes Health and Usage Monitoring System information, Test, Ware and Services. Zing HUMS includes on-board or carry-on hardware, sensors, cabling, software, and data management service. Zing Ware and Zing Services assist operators with managing their operational costs through planned maintenance events in preferred geographic areas - and when passengers are not scheduled - to avoid unanticipated events where an aircraft may be outbound, away from service providers or scheduled for flight.

"Zing is really tailored for fleet operators where daily operation availability is a make-or-break factor in their business," Cuff said. "In its Helicopter configuration, the Zing HUMS portfolio includes sensor driven data and analysis gathered directly from the aircraft, providing information about the engine, gearbox, shafts, fans and rotor systems. Zing Test is an easy to use, carry-on vibration testing and balancing tool and Zing Ware is software and Web-based tools for analyzing data collected from other sensors providing corrective actions for maintenance personnel."

Zing Services provide fleet-level planning tools that include a web portal for remote access, 24x7 advisory services and other critical maintenance information that allows fleet managers to develop and monitor repair scheduling.

Zing for helicopters is available for private and commercial operators, including offshore and executive transport, emergency medical services, law enforcement, search and rescue and tour operators.
