Honeywell Expands Cockpit Weather Features Via Trade-In

Satellite Weather to Replace Ground-Based System in January 2010

Honeywell had a slew of announcements Sunday, including  expanded weather features for piston-powered operators, by offering a $1,000 credit toward any new Bendix/King by Honeywell KDR 610 XM Receiver purchase in 2009 upon trade-in of the KDR 510 Data Link Receiver.

The KDR 610 XM Receiver enables XM weather package subscribers to receive and display high-resolution NEXRAD, precipitation type, METARs, Terminal Area Forecasts (TAFs), Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), freezing levels, winds aloft, severe weather storm tracks, AIRMETs, SIGMETs and lightning.

The KDR 610 receiver works with the KMD series of multi-function displays, offering pilots instant access to weather in flight. Customers with existing KMD 550 and 850 displays will receive a free software update to enable the display’s new weather capabilities when they purchase a new current navigation database card for their unit.

Honeywell’s ground-based flight information service data link network used by the KDR 510 will be discontinued on January 1, 2010.
