Construction Industry May Be Next On The UAV Bandwagon

Skycatch CEO Says Aircraft Could Save Developers Billions Of Dollars

The co-founder and CEO of San Francisco start-up UAV company Skycatch says that one of the next big players in the UAV market may be the construction industry ... and it could be a multi-billion dollar market.

Fortune magazine reports that, according to Christian Sanz, the aforementioned CEO, advancements in aerial data collection and imaging could mean savings in the billions of dollars for developers of major projects, even if they sped up completion by just a few days. Data gathered by UAVs could, he said, help developers better deploy manpower and materials to make construction more efficient.

Some companies have already experimented with UAVs, according to the article, collecting data and images and transmitting that information to the cloud. That allows remote engineers to collaborate on projects without having to travel to a job site.

Sanz predicts that the construction segment of the UAV industry could be worth as much as $2 billion.
