FAA Now Publishing Vice Presidential TFRs

TFR Epidemic Appears To Be Ready To Double In Frequency

The escalating airspace rip-off that has occurred as a result of the President's travels is apparently getting worse... by a factor of two.

The NBAA tells us that in addition to the Presidential TFRs that have been proliferating recently, the FAA is now publishing Vice Presidential TFRs at the behest of the US Secret Service. While the Vice Presidential TFRs are not exactly new, they have been used so infrequently and in such "low impact" areas in the past, that they have pretty much gone unnoticed.

Until recently.

In the past couple of days, two appeared -- in Richmond, VA and at Hanscom Field, MA.

While smaller in scope (3 nm and 3000 ft. for the most recent) they are still restrictive to general aviation and will require operators to have the same level of diligence in avoiding them as the larger Presidential TFRs.

Operators are URGED to ALWAYS check NOTAMs before filing flight plans.
