Albuquerque Double Eagle Airport Groundbreaking New Hangars

High Flying Hangars, LLC to Kick Off 1st Phase of New Construction

Albuquerque, New Mexico’s Double Eagle II Airport will host a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of construction on hangars for 50 aircraft, greatly expanding the GA footprint of the region.

Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller will be on hand along with a handful of local stakeholders, congratulating High Flying Hangars, LLC on their upcoming work. The event will feature comments from Kenny Hinkes, company developer overseeing the expansion, along with Mayor Keller. Afterward, the construction site will see ground broken to local applause. The event is hoped to bring a modicum of attention to the “innovative approach to solving the critical shortage of aircraft hangars” in the area.

The expansion of hangar space will help reinvigorate business and personal aircraft use at Double Eagle airport, hopefully creating a thriving airport community that will further develop opportunities for future up and comers as they break into the industry. The hangars will be the first new development around the airport in decades. Albuquerque should have another jumping off point for future EAA Young Eagles get togethers, experience flights, and chapters, with Angel Flight participants gaining another place to hang their hat should Double Eagle sit nearby.

Attendees are advised that the ceremony won’t be taking place at the ABQ Sunport, with a meeting site designated at the Bode Aviation lot for escort to the appropriate location. The event starts on August 31st, at 10:30 am, with escorts heading out about a quarter of an hour beforehand.
