Universal Avionics’ Upgrades Improve Situational Awareness

Modernizes Capabilities To Extend Lifespan Of Aging Aircraft

Universal Avionics (UA) announced new upgrades to its InSight Flight Display and its ClearVision Enhanced Flight Vision systems intended to enhance flight safety by improving situational awareness as well as extending the lifespan of aging aircraft.

The InSight display system replaces obsolete legacy cathode ray displays with modern glass cockpit capabilities and is certified in more than eight business aircraft models. It provides real-time navigation, terrain awareness, and weather information on high resolution digital screens that are customizable. These features reduce pilot workload and enhance flight management, visibility, and situational awareness.

The ClearVision Enhanced Flight Vision system is a wearable head-up display that incorporates the EVS-5000/4000 multi-spectral camera that utilizes visible and infrared light to provide enhanced visibility at night or poor weather conditions. This is most useful during the critical takeoff and landing phases of flight.

The multispectral camera also demonstrated it resolves issues with the FAA-directed changeover to LED lighting in instrument approach systems. ClearVision is certified on the Boeing 737NG as well as the Beech King Air B200/300.

Dror Yahav, CEO at Universal Avionics, said “Our integrated systems and connected cockpit work to modernize aging aircraft and overcome challenges from outdated avionics. Our retrofit InSight Display System and ClearVision EFVS allow aircraft to continue to fly safely and in accordance with regulations, while maintaining the latest capabilities and maximum operational credits, much like a brand-new aircraft.

“These sustainable upgrades extend the life of aircraft, as avionics systems are often the first components to drive the need to upgrade. By providing futureproof retrofit options, Universal continues to pave the way for enhanced innovation across the industry, aiming to save operators money, time and the inconvenience of aging avionics.”
