Aircraft Electronics Association Issues 2022 Q2 Avionics Market Report

Turn of a Friendly Card

The Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) represents nearly 1,300 member companies in more than forty countries.

It stands to reason, therefore, that retailers, OEMs, and every entity and soul between drew a deep and restorative breath of relief when the organization’s Avionics Market Report for 2022’s second-quarter showed an 11.7% increase in avionics sales over the previous quarter, and a 19.9% increase over the same period in 2021.

AEA president and CEO Mike Adamson states: "It is encouraging to see sales continue to climb, up nearly 16% compared to the first six months of 2021, but we also must consider the inflationary pressures that could factor into that increase. Companies participating in the market report indicated they had increased their prices nearly 6%, which is substantial, yet below the 8.5% rise in the U.S. annual consumer price index reported in July."

Year to date, worldwide business and general aviation avionics sales netted $1,343,242,561—of which $727,552,256 was ascribable to the Forward-fit (factory new) market, with the remaining $615,690,305 deriving of the Retrofit market.

The figures—driven primarily by a 35.6% increase in forward-fit sales—represent a 15.8% increase in total sales compared to the first six months of 2021,

This year’s second-quarter forward-fit sales of $373-million mark the second-largest sales total (in that category) in the report's history—just shy of the $376-million reported in the second quarter of 2019.

The inaugural Avionics Market Report was rendered on 26 March 2013, during the 56th annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Prior to 2012, no effort had been made to calculate the true dollar size of the business and general aviation avionics market. The notion to produce the AEA Avionics Market Report was conceived of in April 2012, when an ad hoc committee comprising representatives of avionics manufacturers was convened to devise a tool for strategic planning and examining market share. Avionics manufacturers participating in the report were directed to submit their sales figures to an independent third-party firm retained by the AEA for purpose of producing a confidential, objective, and accurate market report.
