Spirent Systems tell us they're diligently working towards achieving a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for their new line of cabin displays, the AvVisor(TM) Plus.

Spirent has applied for an STC with the Wichita FAA ACO office, while system installation and FAA/DER inspection will be performed at the Raytheon Aircraft Services facilities in Tampa (FL). The aircraft to be used for the STC installation is a Citation CJ2, Model 525A. Spirent anticipates completing the STC process by early next month.

In addition, Spirent is working in conjunction with Cessna Aircraft Company to achieve aircraft certification for this display system. With certification achieved, Cessna will be able to offer the AvVisor Plus as optional equipment to all new Citation customers. Cessna has also installed the AvVisor Plus on an aircraft mock-up to be on demo at NBAA, 10-12 September in Orlando.

The AvVisor Plus, launched this past spring, is built on a tradition of superior performance and efficiency, representing sixth-generation cabin display technology. AvVisor Plus combines flexibility and customization with new features such as worldwide moving maps and digital video (DVD). AvVisor Plus also provides passengers with cabin audio interface, accurate, real-time flight data, and has the capability to display customized graphics as well as integrate Microsoft PowerPoint® presentation video clips, providing an opportunity for in-flight presentations. AvVisor Plus utilizes a full VGA, bright, flat-panel Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD), allowing for a completely digital information stream. This complete system for in-flight cabin information solutions is available in 6.4", 8.4", and 10.4" display sizes.
