Annual MT Aviation Academy (ACE) Ready For Summer Enrollment

Open To High School Students In Grades 9-12

The state of Montana each year provides an opportunity for students to discover what a career in aviation or aerospace is all about. The Aviation Career Education (ACE),  hosted by the Aeronautics Division of the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), is open to Montana students in grades 9-12.

The program will be held this year in Helena on May 12-13, and will include activities such as a tour of the capitol and field trips to Helena International Airport and Fort Harrison Star Base. Students will also have the opportunity to visit with professional helicopter and airplane pilots, fly flight simulators, take part in an ELT search scenario, and even receive a flight in a real aircraft.

“There’s a multitude of jobs in Montana in the aviation and aerospace related fields; anything from pilots to airport managers,” commented Aviation Safety and Education Bureau Chief Dave Hoerner. “The future of aviation rests solely on today’s professionals and pilots sharing their knowledge of aviation with younger generations.”

ACE provides students with an opportunity to discover new career possibilities and learn about Montana from an atmospheric and aeronautic point of view. Upon submission of registration materials, the Montana Chamber of Commerce and the Montana Pilots Association will award academy tuition to four students with the best written essays. Guidelines for the essay and other registration details can be found online.
