Aero-News Exclusive: Next-Gen Cirrus SR22 'G2' To Be Unveiled Today

"G2" To Be Disclosed

Under the cloak of secrecy, Cirrus is getting set to discuss a number of new features and upgrades to their top-of-the-line SR22 to new owners... who are about to find out that they're getting more than they paid for. Customers are expected to be pleased to find that Cirrus has responded to the opportunities afforded them by a growing owner list that has been offering extensive feedback about the SR22's design and operation, and allowing Cirrus to tweak and upgrade the bird to extend the value and efficiency of the aircraft. The changes reportedly affect "Cirrus' core values of safety, quality, performance and innovation."

The new version has been dubbed "G2."

This upgrade is said to be "evolutionary" rather than revolutionary. While many of the details are still secret (as names and other details are being decided), we do know that there are some subtle performance enhancements, extensive interior upgrades/improvements, safety upgrades, panel upgrades and new doors (one of the few repeat complaints we've heard about the bird). There will also be an exterior upgrade that insiders say will make sure that "everyone will know this is a new SR22 from across the ramp..."

Cirrus plans six private showings in March to a limited group of flyers/owners across the country. A tentative schedule has been suggested, though changes may occur as final details are compiled in the next few days. Check with Cirrus Design to see if you can wangle an invitation...

  • March 2 - Chicago
  • March 5 - New York metro
  • March 9 - Atlanta
  • March 12 - Florida
  • March 16 - Dallas
  • March 22 - Southern California

We'll have more specifics and some pictures shortly, but it's good to see that CD is not resting on its laurels and continues a trend of constant improvements and upgrades. ANN's Jim Campbell is expected to get his hands on one for a cross-country shakedown within a few days of its availability.
