Classic Aero-TV: Beringer AK Landing Gear-Booney-Bashing Approach For Rough Ops

From 2015: The Main Gear Takes More Abuse Than Most Other Parts Of An Airframe... Especially In The Boonies!

If you’re into the kinds of airplanes that can takeoff and land in a very short distance, you know that it’s about more than just the aerodynamics and power.

It also has to have landing gear designed to take that sort of rough and tough flying. While at EAA AirVenture 2015, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, took a look at the landing gear being offered by Beringer Aero that is designed just for this purpose.

Jim talked with Claire Beringer, the Sales Director for Beringer Aero. The landing gear system shown in this video is in the process of being FAA certified for installation on the Super Cub and Husky aircraft. For these type-certificated airplanes, an STC is required and Beringer said they expect to have it by early next year.

The video provides a great demonstration of the landing gear, and as you watch the action, Beringer provides detailed insight into the construction and materials used to create this rugged undercarriage. Beringer also discusses the testing that is being performed for the purpose of certification.

Of course, she points out that the landing gear will also be available for installation on experimental airplanes, and they expect that to happen prior to acquiring the STC. It’s no surprise there calling this product, Alaska Landing Gear.
