Poland Purchases Three MQ-9B SkyGuardians

GA-ASI Remote Aircraft Forms The Country’s ISR Capability

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) announced the sale of three MQ-9B Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPA) to the Polish Ministry of Defense. The newest model RPA will form the backbone platform for Poland’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capability.

The deal also includes two Certifiable Ground Control Stations and three years of GA-ASI’s SkyGuardian Global Support Solutions.

The MQ-9B is capable of extended long endurance and range, as well as takeoff and landing under remote SATCOM-only control. Its Detect-and-Avoid system is also a GA-ASI developed ability to operate in airspace without any direct oversight.

In 2022, Poland leased and began operating two MQ-9A Reapers from GA-ASI, and the success of those missions facilitated the current purchase of the MQ-9Bs.

David R. Alexander, President of GA-ASI, said, “The purchase of MQ-9B SkyGuardian will deliver persistent multi-domain situational awareness, which is vital to Poland. SkyGuardian is a critical security tool and GA-ASI is proud to continue to build on its strong partnership with Poland.”

The Polish National Defense Ministry said, “In the presence of Deputy Prime Minister W?adys?aw Kosiniak-Kamysz, a contract was concluded for the supply of MQ-9B SkyGuardian unmanned reconnaissance systems, which will increase the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces in the field of ISR.”

GA-ASI said that deliveries of the MQ-9B began in 2022 to the British Royal Air Force. The company has signed contracts with Belgium, Canada, the Japan Coast Guard, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Taiwan, India, and the U.S. Air Force.
