GAMA Opens 2022 Scholarship Applications

Graduating Aviation-Bound High Schoolers Encouraged to Apply

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) has begun accepting applications for the Edward W. Stimpson Aviation Excellence Award Scholarship, granted to graduating US high school seniors pursuing education in aviation.

The lucky recipient selected will get $2,000 for the furtherance of their career. The award honors late GAMA president and founder Edward W. Stimpson as a way to foster the aerospace workforce and advance the careers of young up and comers establishing a foothold in the business.

Students must be accepted to and enrolled in an aviation degree core program at their chosen college or university, like flight training, aviation management, aerospace engineering, maintenance, or human factors in aviation. The minimum grade point average is a standard 3.0 on a 4-point scale, and students must be graduating in the spring of 2022. Applicants will need to submit 2 letters of recommendation, their high school transcript, and their essay responding to the prompt. Electronic submissions are preferred, with a final deadline of April 15, 2022.

GAMA states that "Applicants will be assessed on their academic achievements, involvement in extracurricular activities, and their essay question responses." Applicants submitting across a range of scholarships will be thankful to hear the essay is a somewhat short 750 words, typed and double spaced addressing the prompt: "The general aviation industry includes the manufacturing, maintenance, repair and operation of aircraft that are not used for scheduled commercial air service or operated by the military. Why are you interested in a career in general aviation, and how do you plan to pursue it?"
