Aero-TV: John Corneal's SubSonex - Minimum Jet/Maximum Thrill

Inside The Building Of A Sonex Jet…

John Corneal has wanted to fly jets since he was six years old; that's what he told Aero-TV at AirVenture in July. But for a variety of reasons, he didn't have the opportunity until Sonex introduced the SubSonex jet ... and Corneal was one of the early builders of the sport airplane.

Corneal went through some of the challenges of building his first airplane, and what it is like to fly. The process took him about two years, and he said he built the little jet in his garage so that it was easier to go out and work on it after a long day at work.

Corneal first flew his jet on April 20th, 2017. His was the fourth of the aircraft to take to the air. At the time, he told Sonex, "N465JC took to the sky for her maiden flight this afternoon at 4pm. The flight lasted 40 minutes. The flight consisted of 10, 20, & 30 degree banks, slow flight in both clean and landing configuration, climbs and descents, and a simulated go around, followed by a return to the airport for a go around and landing. The plane handled flawlessly and was a joy to fly… Thank you for a wonderful design."

We wish John many years of fun flying in his SubSonex Jet!
