CAF Airbase Georgia To Celebrate VE Day May 10

Commemorating 80th Anniversary of World War II Allied Victory In Europe

The Commemorative Air Force’s Airbase Georgia announced its celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory over the Nazis in World War II in Europe will be held on May 10 in a special family-friendly, Open House event that will also signal the start of Armed Forces Week extending until May 17.

The event offers the opportunity for guests to explore the sights, sounds, and legacy of the Greatest Generation.

VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) is celebrated on May 8, the day in 1945 that Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler surrendered to Allied Forces to end the war in Europe, and Armed Forces Week honors the service of the men and women who serve or have served in all branches of the U.S. military.

Joel Perkins, the leader of Airbase Georgia said, “We aim to educate, inspire, and honor. This Open House is a meaningful way for us to honor World War II veterans and share the experiences of the millions of Americans who supported the war effort on the Home Front.”

Visitors of all ages can participate in immersive and interactive activities led by dedicated CAF volunteers. There will be hands-on exhibits designed for school-age kids as well as displays highlighting life during the war. These are intended to provide attendees deeper understanding and appreciation of the efforts and sacrifices made by both civilians and service members.

There will also be a chance to see up close restored vintage aircraft as well as rides. See the legendary P-51 Mustang, FG-1 Corsair, and the rare SBD Dauntless dive bomber.

The event will run from 10 am to 4 pm at the CAF Airbase Georgia at Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field in Peachtree City outside of Atlanta.
