Cirrus Unveils New Pilot Training Program

Pilots New And Old May Benefit

On Wednesday at AirVenture 2007, Cirrus took the wraps off a training service for customers of its new and used aircraft. The Cirrus Proficiency program intends to train pilots on safety aspects of the company's entire product line.

Alan Klapmeier, chairman and CEO of Cirrus, said, "Pilot safety is critical for Cirrus." Cirrus also recently acquired a Flight Training Device for advanced pilot training at its Duluth, MN headquarters.

The Cirrus Proficiency program involves an initial training period at a service center followed by six month follow-up sessions.

"Ongoing pilot development is just as important as aircraft innovation," Klapmeier said.
 
The FTD is intended to train Cirrus pilots how to handle emergency situations without pulling the parachute. The FTD will allow Cirrus to safely create situations and circumstances that couldn't otherwise be created in actual flight.

The company plans to supply other training centers with FTDs in the future for use with its advanced pilot training program.

"Knowing that each pilot has different levels of experience, Cirrus now coordinates registration for Jeppesen's online 'Cirrus Transition Course', training at the factory, and the Cirrus Learning Plan customized to each owner's goals," Klapmeier said.
