Split Reported In Small UAV Coalition

Consumer Companies Are Said To Be Forming Their Own Organization

The Small UAV Coalition has reportedly split into two factions, with four companies focused on selling consumer products set to form their own organization.

USA Today reports DJI, Parrot, GoPro, and 3DR are planning to break away from the overall coalition to focus specifically on consumer issues. GoPro spokesman Jeff Brown said the four companies would continue to be closely aligned with the coalition on big issues, but that the maturing marked for the aircraft has made some shifting inevitable.

Adam Lisberg, spokesman for DJI Technology, said that the Coalition would continue to be "allies and friends, but the business is growing so big we thought we would most benefit from a group focused on issues that are important to small drone manufacturers and our customers."

He said among the primary issues for those customers is how and where they can fly their aircraft.

Attorney Michael Drobac, a spokesman for the Small UAV Coalition, said that the split is amicable, and he hopes the consumer-focused group is successful in achieving its goals.
