Sun Country Airlines Announces New Safety Program for Pilots

Say Hello To The Aviation Safety Action Program

Sun Country Airlines today announced the implementation of a new safety program for its pilots, the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP). This program allows pilots to promptly identify and report potential safety hazards through the process of an open reporting system.

"Our primary concern is always providing the safest environment for our customers and employees, this program will enhance Sun Country's systematic approach to the management of aviation safety," said Tony Loeks, Dir Safety/Security at Sun Country Airlines.

Sun Country and the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) joined the Federal Aviation Administration in voluntarily implementing ASAP. The program is intended to improve flight safety through pilot self reporting, cooperative follow-up, and appropriate corrective action. Through such reporting, all parties will have access to valuable safety information that may not otherwise be obtained.

Captain Bruce M. Achterling, Chairman of the ALPA-represented Sun Country Pilots said, "We are very pleased to be working with the FAA and Sun Country Airlines to further enhance the safety of our flight operations." With ASAP safety related events are reported and the information will be analyzed and used to assist in improving flight safety by detecting deficiencies before they become a problem.

Sun Country employs 92 pilots. All are members of the ALPA.
