Aero-TV: TruTrak’s New Vizion STC – Affordable Autopilots for GA

Increasing Safety In Legacy Aircraft…

Earlier this year the FAA approved an STC for installation kits for the TruTrak Vizion autopilot in a select group of aircraft. The STC approval means that installation brackets and hardware for the TruTrak autopilot can be installed for the Vizion autopilot in Cessna 172 (F through R models) and all Cessna 177s.

Andrew Barker, president and CEO of Tru Trak Flight Systems, told ANN news editor Tom Patton at Sun 'n Fun that the company also received a PMA for the kits, clearing the way for them to be manufactured.

Now, Barker said, the company is continuing to work closely with EAA and the FAA on full system approval for the installation. That announcement may come later this summer.

Barker said that the Vizion autopilot has been the company's most popular autopilot for years, and one with which many pilots are already comfortable. New features are likely to be introduced later this year, he said, but the current model offers track select, altitude hold, and emergency level.

Barker said that the process for receiving the STC and PMA was "really, really great." He called the risk-based PMA a "significant step" forward for the agency, which was a very good partner in the process.

The company is currently gauging interest to determine the next aircraft type for a Certified TruTrak Autopilot installation, so if you’re interested, head over to www.TrakAP.com and put your aircraft on the list!
