jetBlue Captain Exhibits 'Erratic Behavior'

Flight To Las Vegas Diverted To Amarillo, TX

The captain of a jetBlue flight from New York to Las Vegas diverted to Amarillo, TX Tuesday after the captain exhibited what TSA described as "erratic behavior."

jetBlue would not officially name the pilot. Sources told Fox News he is jetBlue flight standards captain Clayton Osbon from Richmond Hill, GA. He reportedly told passengers to "say your prayers" as he ran up and down the aisle of the airplane after being locked out of the cockpit. A passenger told the New York Post that someone had said he was "saying something about bombs." Another passenger said he was banging on the cockpit door.

A flight attendant made an announcement over the intercom asking passengers to restrain the pilot. He was eventually subdued by four passengers, one of them a former corrections officer headed to a conference in Las Vegas. The captain was reportedly yelling about Iran and Afghanistan, though he does not seem to have any connection to the conflicts there or any other national security ties.

The co-pilot had convinced the captain to leave the cockpit, and then locked the door. After he was restrained, an off-duty jetBlue pilot entered the cockpit and assisted with the landing.

jetBlue is reimbursing the passengers and offering credit for twice the value of their tickets. The pilot was taken to a medical facility in Amarillo. The incident is under investigation by the FBI, FAA, and TSA.
