Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia Receives Bombers

Multiple WWII Warbird Exhibitions to Take Place in May

The CAF has repositioned a few of its bombers to their Georgia airbase, moving the B-17 Flying Fortress "Texas Raiders", with the B-29 Superfortress "Fifi" and B-24 Liberator "Diamond Lil'" to appear in the area next May.

The state will see a number of warbird exhibitions throughout the month, beginning with the Flags for the Fallen display on Memorial Day weekend in Savannah. A smattering of additional displays will pass through Columbus, Savannah, and Douglas, making their way to the Georgia WWII Heritage Trail, the National Infantry Museum, the Museum of Aviation, the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth,  and the World War II Flight Training Museum. For residents in the area, there will be no shortage of opportunities to see some of the only remaining, active aircraft in the world. Other warbirds, like the SB2C Helldiver and T-6 Texan will make their appearance as well, joined by local CAF aircraft from the state, an FG-1D Corsair, an SBD Dauntless, and a P-63A Kingcobra.

“Local CAF Airbase Georgia plans to add to the excitement of the event in Macon by sending our popular P-51 Mustang Red Nose,” said Airbase Leader Joel Perkins. “Rides will be available on Texas Raiders and other historic aircraft, providing once-in-a-lifetime flying experiences on restored CAF aircraft.”

Ride reservations aboard the B-17 are available, but limited.
