Hangar Upgrades, New Pilots For CAF MS Wing

Enhancing Facilities To Attract Members, Community Engagement

The Mississippi Wing of the Commemorative Air Force is upping their game by performing major upgrades on the hangar and bringing in a new batch of pilots to enhance its facilities, attract more members, and engage more with the local community.

One of the reasons spurring these changes is the recent certification of several young private pilots among members of the Wing, with another soon to take his check ride.

The recruitment efforts and upgrades are aimed at providing better resources for current members and to foster a more attractive and welcoming environment for new recruits as well as visitors. As it hosts more events to bring in greater community engagement, the Wing is hopeful that the improvements will generate more interest in the Wing and the CAF’s mission.

The three-phase construction project that began in December 2024, will bring the welcomed addition of an air-conditioned pilot’s lounge as well as dedicated areas for maintenance and a museum for the Wing to display its extensive collection of historical artifacts.

CAF Colonel Kristen Stevens is excited to talk about the improvements saying, “Pilots will finally have a dedicated maintenance room for organizing tools and equipment, which will facilitate smoother aircraft movement in the hangar.”
