Top Executives Leave Luminati Aerospace

Company Says Such Departures Are Not Unusual For Startups

Two top executives at Luminati Aerospace have resigned from the company in recent months, though the company says such resignations are not unusual in startup enterprises.

The Calverton, NY-based company plans to build solar-electric HALE unmanned aircraft that can provide Internet service to underserved areas of the world. The mission statement on the company's website is to "connect the remaining four billion people in the world without access to the internet."

Newsday reports that last year, Senior scientist Anthony Calise resigned from the company. Calise worked on the guidance and autopilot systems for the Patriot missile, according to the report.

In late March, Stefan Maier, the COO and an expert in composite materials, also resigned, according to Luminati spokesman Jeremy Freeman, who said that such departures are not unusual due to the "bumps and disagreements" in a startup company.

Freeman told Newsday that CEO Daniel Preston will be announcing a new leadership team on June 17 at an airshow being held at Enterprise Park at Calverton (EPCAL) ... where Grumman once tested the lunar rover and the F-14 Tomcat. Luminati is in negotiations with the town of Riverhead to buy about 2,300 acres of the industrial park.
