Florida Flight School Celebrates 'Learn To Fly Day' And 11th Anniversary

Day-Long Celebration To Be Held At Sterling Flight Training In Jacksonville May 21

Sterling Flight Training in Jacksonville, FL, is hosting an open house anniversary celebration at its headquarters located at Craig Airport (KCRG). The event will be held Saturday, May 21 from 0900 to 1600 EDT ... rain or shine.

"If you love airplanes and have ever wanted to learn to fly then this is a day you don't want to miss," said Rebecca Brown, Director of Marketing and Admissions, Sterling Flight Training. "What better day for Sterling to celebrate its 11th anniversary than on International Learn to Fly Day?"

Created by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), International Learn to Fly Day is an aviation community-wide effort helping people of all ages take that first step to discover the fun, freedom and accomplishment of flight.

The inaugural International Learn to Fly Day in 2010 drew more than 40,000 people to events. Additionally, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution in 2010 declaring the third Saturday in May as International Learn to Fly Day, recognizing the contributions of flight instructors, flight schools, aviation groups, and industry in promoting and teaching the nation's next generation of pilots. "During our 11-years, Sterling Flight Training has taught thousands of people of all ages to enjoy the wonders of flying an airplane," Brown added. "Many of our students have gone on to fly with our military and commercial airlines - and they all started with a trip to the airport."

Brown said that the day-long event will full of private aviation themed activities including:

  • Hourly flight training seminars.
  • Aircraft displays.
  • Free EAA Young Eagles flights hosted by Jacksonville EAA Chapter 193.
  • Airplane and helicopter rides.
  • Aviation product exhibits.
  • Silent auction.
  • Raffle drawings for FREE airplane and helicopter rides.
  • Food, fun and a whole lot more.

As part of EAA's ongoing efforts to introduce young people to the wonders of flight, Jacksonville's EAA Chapter 193 will also be offering a limited number of Young Eagle introductory airplane flights for ages 8 to 18. Parking and admission to Sterling's celebration is FREE. Proceeds from food and beverage sales, as well as the silent auction, go to support the efforts of EAA Chapter 193, and to help promote general aviation throughout Northeast Florida.
