Unmanned Safety Institute Publishes UAS Legal, Business Text

P3 Tech Contributes Work on Considerations for Drone Integration, Legal Operation

The Unmanned Safety Institute has announced the availability of their new textbook covering legal considerations surrounding UAS operations.

According to the Institute, the book, "Unmanned Aircraft Systems – Legal and Business Considerations", was created to "provide much needed insight to new or rapidly growing Unmanned Aircraft Systems commercial operations." As the take up of autonomous and semi-autonomous aircraft increases, so do the chances of incidents. Unlike other technological additions to a business, the introduction of aircraft brings fresh liabilities and challenges that should be addressed with full knowledge. The book will be part of the Institute's academic body of work, aimed at those collegiate programs that include the operation of uncrewed systems.

Te book was written by retired Air Force Colonel Dawn Zoldi, with the assistance of her company P3 Tech Consulting. She'll be introducing her work at AUVSI XPonential 2022's Law Tech Connect Workshop, giving attendees a leg up on their efforts to enhance their UAS operations.

“USI takes great pride in being a thought leader for the UAS marketplace,” said Institute president Josh Olds. “A successful commercial UAS program must deliver a return on investment for the operator. If an operation isn’t built on top of a strong safety, legal, and risk-based foundation, the entire UAS program is putting that ROI in jeopardy”.

Zoldi is proud of her work, saying "There is no other resource in the marketplace like this textbook. I commend USI for having the foresight to commission this book at this early stage of commercial UAS adoption. I recommend that every commercial UAS operator uses this book as a resource for planning, starting, and scaling their UAS operation.”
