Aero-TV At OSH21: Bushcat Makes Improvements, Placed On FAA Approved Kit List

Aerosport Co-Boss Daniela Knoll Talks Specifics

The Bushcat is a backcountry, STOL-capable aircraft. And, as of August 2020, the Bushcat has been placed on the FAA-approved kit list.

One of the main appeals of the Bushcat is that it is very affordable and easy to maintain. It is available as a kit that leans more towards an assembly with about 350-400 hours of build time and a low amount of fabrication involved.

Available as a kit or a fully built out the door SLSA, assembly is done for US customers out of the facility in Illinois. There is currently about a 9-12 month wait time for a factory-built aircraft.

The Bushcat offers a less than 300 ft take-off and landing distance, and as a low, slow flyer you will average about 90-100mph cruise speed.

We spoke with Daniela Knoll, President of Aerosport, at Oshkosh in the ultra-light field between giving demos of the Bushcat.

“This is a really great trainer because of the side-by-side seating. It’s easy to fly and easy to maintain,” she says. “It’s actually one of the widest cabins in the LSA category so we’ve got about 53 inches of cabin space. Two big guys won’t rub shoulders with one another, that’s for sure.”

The choice for power is the Rotax 912 ULS, a 100 hp carbureted engine although Knoll notes that there may be a choice for a fuel-injected option at a later date.

Knoll looks forward to the future of the Bushcat, which is being manufactured by SkyReach.

“We are just going to continue to take customer feedback, any improvements that can be made the factory is very receptive to. They have made some incredible improvements just recently so we are really showing those off now and we just hope to keep production going so we can get the turnaround and the lead time down a bit if possible,” she says.
