Saturday Debut Planned For Mitsubishi Regional Jet

Will Be Rolled Out At A Ceremony In Nagoya, Japan

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries plans to unveil its MRJ90 at a ceremony in Nagoya, Japan Saturday.

The Associated Press reports that the company has 191 orders for the composite-construction airplane an 184 options on its order books. The first flight of the MRJ is planned for the second quarter of next year, with first deliveries in 2017.

Mitsubishi plans three versions of the MRJ; the MRJ90 will seat 88 passengers, while the MRJ70 will carry 76. The larger MRH100X will have 100 seats.

The MRJ is the first nationally-funded passenger airliner to be produced in Japan since the YS-11 turboprop was discontinued in 1973.
