Illinois Aviation Academy Opens Base At DeKalb Municipal

FAA-Approved Satellite Training Facility Expands Program's Reach

The Illinois Aviation Academy (IAA) announced the addition of a second training facility at the DeKalb Talyor Municipal Airport (KDKB) in DeKalb, Illinois, expanding operations from its current location at DuPage Airport (KDPA) in West Chicago.

Both facilities are FAA-approved Part 141 flight schools capable of delivering training leading to the Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, Multi-Engine, and Flight Instructor certificates and ratings.

IAA is also the home of the Atlas Cadet Academy, a newly-launched partnership with Atlas Air designed to prepare aspiring professional pilots for potential opportunities to become First Officers with Atlas. Atlas is one of the largest operators of the Boeing 747 in the world, serving both passenger and cargo operations.

The expansion enhances the capability of IAA to provide accessible and high-quality flight training across Illinois and brings these additional features:

  • FAA-approved Advanced Training Device (ATD): Supports instrument training for students under FAA Part 141
  • Strategic Location: Positioned at DeKalb’s general aviation airport, with an optimal environment with low traffic density close to both controlled and uncontrolled airspaces
  • New Partnership: Enrollment is now open for the Atlas Cadet Academy (ACA), a pathway to becoming a First Officer with Atlas Air, a global leader in cargo and passenger aviation

Robert Werderich, Executive Vice President of Flight Operations at Spartan Education Group, operator of the IAA, said, "This expansion aligns with IAA's mission to make quality flight training accessible and streamlined for aspiring recreational and professional pilots across Illinois."
