First Annual Louisiana Aviation Weather Conference Announced

The National Weather Service is hosting their first annual aviation conference for the state of Louisiana on October 27th. The Conference will be held at NOAA's Estuarine Habitats and Coastal Fisheries Center located at 646 Cajundome Blvd., Lafayette, LA.

The conference is designed for both commercial and general aviation interests and will give pilots and meteorologists an opportunity to interact, ask questions, and get information on the latest weather products.

Topics and speakers include:

  • The Aviation Weather Center in Kansas City, MO will be talking about New Aviation Weather Products and Web Services.
  • US Air Force meteorologists from Barksdale Air Force Base will discuss current Air Force weather structure and products.
  • The Flight Service Station in DeRidder will discuss FAA related issues.
  • The Center Weather Service Unit (CWSU) from Houston will discuss issues related to their office.
  • Meteorologists from National Weather Service offices in Lake Charles, Shreveport, Slidell and Jackson, MS will give presentations on forecasts, observations, forecasting fog and low clouds, radar interpretation, severe weather, aircraft hazards, and weather sources on the internet.

The cost for the conference will be $10. This will include coffee and donuts in the morning, as well as lunch and snacks in the afternoon. This will be due the morning of the conference at registration. If you do not wish to eat in the morning or afternoon, then the cost of the conference is free. Please indicate whether you will be eating when you send in your RSVP.

Interested flyers are requested to reserve your spot at the conference as soon as possible; as only the first 70 people to sign up will attend. Exact times and additional information will be forwarded to you after you RSVP.

  • Send an e-mail to Jennifer.McNatt@noaa.gov with your name, phone number, affiliation and number of people attending
  • Send a postcard with your name, phone number, affiliation and number of people attending to 500 Airport Blvd #115, Lake Charles, LA 70607
  • Call the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles at (337) 477-5285 and leave your name, phone number, affiliation and number of people attending with the duty forecaster
