Iowa to Host Cessna 120-140 Association Annual Convention

A Past Worth Preserving

The International Cessna 120-140 Association is an all-volunteer group comprising approximately one-thousand aircraft owners, pilots, and aviation enthusiasts bound by a shared interest in restoring, maintaining, and flying Cessna model 120, 140 and 140A aircraft of 1946 to 1951 vintages.

Age notwithstanding, the aforementioned machines instantiate a unique alloying of performance, economy of operation, and ease of maintenance largely absent in contemporary aircraft of similar size and purpose.

In furtherance of its larger goal of keeping its namesake aircraft flying safely and economically, the Association provides a forum for the dissemination and exchange of information germane to the restoration, maintenance, and operation of Cessna 120, 140 and 140A aircraft.

By dint of its network of state and foreign representatives, the Association promotes numerous local and regional fly-ins at which Cessna 120, 140 and 140A enthusiasts meet, socialize, compare aircraft, and exchange ideas and information.

The International Cessna 120-140 Association’s Annual Convention attracts enthusiasts from all corners of the world. The multi-day event includes maintenance and safety forums, flying events, business meeting, social activities, and visits to historical or other points of interest. The convention is held in September at different locations around the U.S.

2023’s International Cessna 120-140 Association Annual Convention will be held at Decorah, Iowa’s Decorah Municipal Airport (DEH), a city-owned public-use airport located two-nautical-miles southeast of the central business district of Decorah, a city of some eight-thousand inhabitants in northeastern Iowa’s Winneshiek County.

In a press release announcing the event, the International Cessna 120-140 Association sets forth:

“Yep, we’re going to Hometown, USA up in the northeast corner of Iowa. When most of us think of Iowa we think of endless fields of soybeans and corn, flat as a pancake, right?

“Not so fast. Up by Decorah we find rolling hills, forests, and great scenery. Decorah turns out to be a destination for antiques, the knick-knack shops, historical buildings and fine dining.

“They even have micro-breweries! Which just happens to be one of the potential tours planned for the 2023 Convention. Yep…we’re going bar hopping! Well, visiting the micro-brews and having dinner anyway.

“Prairie du Chien is just down the road to the East, rumor has it there’s a dinner cruise available, Brett Willie is getting the details as we speak. Anyone up for a tour of the Mississippi River?

“There’s lots to see and do, final plans and schedules will be out soon. Meanwhile, mark your calendars and plan to join the fun!”
