Fractional Piper Cubs: An Idea Whose Time Has Come (Finally)?

Exciting New Program Makes Aircraft Ownership Less Expensive Than Automobiles

Ya gotta love this idea...

Time Pieces, LLC, has introduced a novel program with an exciting new method for aircraft ownership. Following a trend that revolutionized corporate aviation in the nineties, Time Pieces intends to provide fractional ownership in vintage aircraft to general aviation pilots. During the last decade, corporate aircraft ownership was transformed by the development of "fractional programs." These programs are similar to the time-share programs that allow people to own choice pieces of property that they might otherwise only dream of.

How's it work?

Simple.

Owners pay a set amount for an aircraft that is operated by a management company. This company handles all day to day aspects of aircraft ownership. Most pilots dream of owning their own airplane. However, the pride of personal ownership can sometimes be overshadowed by the inconvenience of dealing with the many details that ownership brings with it -- prepurchase inspections, securing a hangar, annual/preventative maintenance, tracking down hard-to-find parts, insurance, federal regulations, registration, taxes, etc. With Time Pieces to handle these details, the owner has the luxury of "Showing up and Flying" along with the comfort of knowing they have a quality aircraft management company looking after their airplane.

The aircraft at the heart of Time Pieces' operation, is the world renowned J-3 Cub -- one of them is featured in the latest painting by aviation artist Sam Lyons called "Golden Times" (right). These famous yellow aircraft with the lightening bolt down the side, were manufactured in great numbers between 1935 and 1947. During this timeframe, Piper became known as the leader in good, safe aircraft that every person could afford to buy and fly. Sixty-five years later, a vintage Piper J-3 Cub has high market demand and a correspondingly high purchase price (mostly) due to its nostalgic appeal. However, Time Pieces will once again make these pieces of history attainable for all pilots "to buy and fly".

The novel idea of Vintage fractionals was developed by the founder and president of TimePieces. Having owned several aircraft herself, she could see the pitfalls of individual ownership and began looking for ways to make these wonderful machines affordable. With experience in dealing with the growing list of day to day ownership hassles and the financial expenditures unforeseen by most, she founded Time Pieces to assist others in overcoming these issues.

Time Pieces' founder, Ginger Gordon, resides in Greenwood, Indiana and is deeply involved in the local aviation community. She participates in several aviation groups throughout Central Indiana, is a committee chairman for the Indianapolis Air Show, assists a local vintage aircraft restorer, and is a vocal advocate for general aviation. Yet, at the top of her list is flying a WWII era trainer for the Commemorative Air Force. During the summer you may see her at air shows dressed in the period correct uniform of "WASP" (Women's Air Service Pilot).

In the summer, if Ginger isn't flying, she is mowing grass at a small, grass-runway airport in Southern Indiana that she co-operates.

Ginger states, "At Lee Bottom Flying Field, we are committed to providing an environment where pilots can experience flying as it was originally meant to be. Time Pieces adds to the experience by providing the historic aircraft that every pilot can BUY and FLY."
