NTSB Prelim: Alexander S Rolinski Aventura II

When The Airplane Was About 300 Ft Above Ground Level, The Engine Lost Partial Power

Location: DeLand, FL Accident Number: ERA24LA279
Date & Time: June 26, 2024, 14:49 Local Registration: N243AV
Aircraft: Alexander S Rolinski Aventura II Injuries: 2 Serious
Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General aviation - Flight test

On June 26, 2024, around 1449 eastern daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Aventura II, N243AV, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Deland, Florida. The pilot and passenger sustained serious injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 test flight.

The pilot was at DeLand Municipal Airport-Sidney H Taylor Field (DED), DeLand, Florida, to ferry another airplane when he agreed to test fly the accident airplane with an avionics specialist to troubleshoot an avionics issue. Shortly after takeoff from runway 31, when the airplane was about 300 ft above ground level, the engine lost partial power. The pilot added full power and turned both fuel pumps on; however, the engine did not regain power. The pilot recalled nothing after trying to identify an appropriate place for a forced landing. The airplane impacted trees and came to rest in a nose-down attitude in a residential area. The fuselage and both wings were substantially damaged.

The wreckage was retained for further examination.
