Thales And NATS Sign New UK Contract

New System To Provide Earlier Conflict Detection In UK Airspace

Following an international competitive tender, NATS, the UK's main air  navigation service provider, has chosen Thales to supply their new  Safety Nets Server. The technology will be deployed at Swanwick and  Prestwick Air Traffic Control Centers, as well as at NATS’ Corporate  Technical Center and will be integrated into a fully virtualized  environment.

Based on the Thales TopSky–Safety Nets system, this innovative  technology guarantees earlier conflict detection and a lower nuisance  alert rate than standard safety nets. It is anticipated that TopSky–Safety  Nets will help extend NATS’s outstanding safety record.

Thales says the contract is evidence of its edge in delivering components perfectly integrated into the  actual ATC system and virtualized ATM solutions.

NATS joins over 40 Air Navigation Service Providers across the globe that have already chosen TopSky–Safety Nets for their ATC centers. “NATS is a world leading provider of air traffic control services with an outstanding safety record. Thales is proud to deliver the world’s most advanced and innovative safety nets and air traffic management systems to support UK air traffic controllers and contribute to maintaining the highest levels of safety in the UK airspace,” said Marion Broughton, Thales Vice- President, in charge of Land & Air Systems for the UK.
