Danville, VA Council Approves FBO Contract For Local Airport

General Aviation Will Remain As Sole FBO For Another 18 Months

The Danville, VA City Council has approved a contract with General Aviation to continue to provide FBO services at Danville Regional Airport (KDAN) for at least the next 18 months.

The family-owned business has been providing services at the airport since 1948, according to a report from Work It SOVA online. The recommendation was made by a Fixed-Base Operator Review Committee appointed by Danville Mayor Sherman Saunders.

The vote to extend General Aviation's contract was 6-3. It will extend the contract through June 30, 2019. The committee recommended that the contract be opened to supplemental requests at that time.

The committee considered a competing proposal from Averett University to offer FBO services at the airport, and some on the council though they had made a superior presentation. But public support was overwhelmingly in favor of the existing company. Those speaking in support of General Aviation spoke of the company's helpfulness and excellent service, reasonable prices, competent mechanic and overall good reputation.
