Former Georgia Flight Student Arrested In UK

UK Citizen Was Subject Of Worldwide Terror Alert

A British citizen whose suspicious behavior at a Georgia flight school sparked an international terror hunt has been arreested in Essex, England, by British anti-terror officers.

Zayead Christopher Hajaig, 35, is suspected of obtaining official British documents by deception Wednesday. He's wanted in the US on weapons and immigration charges.

"At approximately 10 a.m. [Wednesday], officers from the Metropolitan Anti-Terrorist Branch arrested a 35-year-old man at residential premises in Essex under the Theft Act 1968 for allegedly obtaining documents by deception," said an Essex Metropolitan Police spokesman, quoted by the BBC. "He remains in custody at an Essex police station. Inquiries are continuing."

As ANN reported a week ago, Hajaig disappeared after employees of a flight school in Lawrenceville, GA, reported he'd overstayed his visa. He was a student at Astron Enterprises fligth school, based on Briscoe Field in Gwinnett County. School employees said he pushed hard to take lessons for which he simply wasn't qualified.

Two of the 19 9/11 hijackers also took flight lessons at Briscoe Field.

The US government issued a worldwide terror alert. Hajaig was indicted by an Atlanta federal grand jury earlier this month.
