Classic Aero-TV: Goodyear's Wingfoot One - What it Takes to Tour in a Zeppelin

From 2016 (YouTube Version): Fly Along With Chief Pilot Hissem…

Goodyear’s Wingfoot One Zeppelin is not the blimp (Navy slang, “Poopy Bag”) that you have known from the past. It’s a modern lighter-than-air machine, and this video will provide a fascinating insight as to how it operates and what makes it work.

Your guide in this captivating video is Spirit of Goodyear chief pilot, Gerald Hissem. The first part of the video discusses the operational requirements of the zeppelin, and you’ll probably hear things that you have never thought of before. Hissem formats his discussion by describing his trip from Akron, OH to Oshkosh WI for AirVenture 2015.

Here’s a couple of facts as a teaser: it takes a crew of 22 people (AKA crew) to support this aircraft on a cross-country flight. The daily cross-country distance is limited to about 250 miles because of the ground crew’s work day duty hours. The ground crew has to beat the Zeppelin to its destination.

The back half of the video is devoted to some of the most beautiful shots of the zeppelin in operation as it makes the cross country flight. You’ll not only see some great scenery, you’ll also see the unique vectored thrust system in operation. This is absolutely a must see video.
