uAvionix Receives FAA TSO Certification For ping200XR

Combined GPS Receiver-Transponder Expands Airspace Access for UAS

Avionics technology company uAvionix announced it has received Technical Standard Order (TSO) certification from the FAA for its ping200XR Mode S ADS-B transponder with integral aviation GPS.

This landmark is the latest in the growing list of TSO certifications for uAvionix and the unit represents the lowest certified size, weight, and power (SWaP) product for global airspace compliance. The certification covers multiple separate TSOs for each component of the unit: transponder, ADS-B functionality, internal pressure altimeter, and integral aviation GPS. The ping200XR measures 47 x 72 x 10mm and weighs 52 grams, and incorporates everything required for certified aircraft or for airspace access within a single small unit.

The TSO ensures that the aircraft can be detected by Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR), Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS), and ADS-B IN receivers, allowing for seamless integration into national and international airspace.

Christian Ramsey, Chief Commercial Officer for uAvionix said, “Receiving TSO certification for the ping200XR represents a significant achievement for uAvionix and underscores our commitment to advancing UAS technology in a way that prioritizes safety and compliance. This approval from the FAA is a testament to the reliability and safety our products bring to the skies, enabling broader access and acceptance by regulators and Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) worldwide.”

Prior to the TSO, the ping200XR has been popular among high altitude aircraft and balloons operating in Class A airspace and higher. The product will be shipped starting in September 2024.
