Saturday: Last Chance to Buy SoloTrek at Auction

So Far, No Bids...

As we reported earlier this week, the exohelicopter called the SoloTrek is being offered on e-Bay. After an initial flurry of bids, rising as high as $5 million, the owners reset the auction, under the highly-rational assumption that pranksters were playing 'Arthur Andersen' with the bidding.

As of press time Thursday, though, there were no bids posted for the unique vehicle, even though the starting price was $50,000. While that may seem like a lot of money for an inoperable toy, it could be seen as a steal, depending on the concept's future, and whether it's seen as trend-setting.

Even so, the twin-rotor, wearable helicopter thingie is destined to be a movie star: it's appearing in this Spring's release of MGM's movie, Agent Cody Banks. [It's already being seen in the trailers, shown in movie houses --ed.]

All right -- it's not like James Bond himself is strapping the thing on -- but you've got to admit that the rocket belt Sean Connery wore in Thunderball (1965 -- shown with one of the actual pilots, Bill Suitor) is still one of the most-famous "toys" of all time. Wouldn't you pay upwards of $50,000 for that? We knew you would...
