First 727 Making Last Flight ... Eventually

Final Home Will Be Boeing's Museum Of Flight At Boeing Field

Boeing's first 727 airliner, which was gifted to the company's Museum of Flight 27 years ago, if finally about to make its final flight from the restoration center at Paine Field to Boeing Field, where it will be placed on permanent display.

The plane came off the assembly line on November 27, 1962. It first flew in January, 1963, and was a test flight aircraft for a year before entering service with United Airlines.

Airlinereporter.com reports that the plane has been sitting at Paine Field since 1991.

Restoration work on the airplane has been on-again, off-again since that time, with the last effort beginning in 2004 following the donation of a 727 from FedEx. The restoration has used parts from three other 727s as well.

No date has been set for the final flight to the Museum.
