Upgrade Covers ALL PC-12 Models
True Blue Power—the Kansas and California-based aerospace technology concern specializing in the design and manufacture of aircraft electrical power systems, USB and wireless chargers, power conversion products, emergency power supplies, and advanced lithium-ion batteries—announced on 16 May 2023 that the company’s Gen5 TB40 (40 amp-hour) Lithium-ion Battery has been granted FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval for installation in all models of Pilatus’s highly-popular PC-12 single-engine turboprop aircraft.

Developed by Finnoff Aviation Products, LLC, the STC comprises options for single and dual main-battery installations and can be adapted to the entirety of extant PC-12 models—from the aircraft’s original 1994 incarnation through its PC-12NG, PC-12M, and current PC-12NGX iterations.
With a capacity of 40 amp-hours at 26.4 volts DC, the TB40 provides superior and dependable energy. The battery handily starts PT6A-67B/P engines in all climates and throughout a temperature-range spanning -40°C to +70°C (-40°F to +158°F). Powerful and long-lasting, the TB40 main-ship-battery affords pilots ample capacity to repetitively motor the PT-6A engine core, thereby helping prevent hot-starts and the costly engine repairs and extended downtimes resultant of such.

Finnoff Aviation Products’s Jon Boknecht stated: “Our next step is introducing the Flex Digital ACU from Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics. The Flex ACU combines the cockpit clock and flight time functions with battery status indication. This optional installation will provide the flight crew with key battery information, such as status, state of charge and battery temperature.”
Key benefits of the Finhoff STC include a sixty-percent weight savings over traditional lead-acid batteries, on-condition maintenance, and eight-year battery life expectancy.
True Blue Power director of aftermarket sales and support Van Winger set forth: “True Blue Power Gen5 batteries last four-times longer than lead-acid and NiCad batteries. The reduced maintenance and longer useful life can save PC-12 owners and operators up to $1,200 a year in total maintenance cost with a single battery. The TB40 quickly pays for itself.”
