Utah Man Flies Airplane Into His Own Home

Sustains Fatal Injuries In The Intentional Act

A pilot who had been arrested on domestic violence charges was fatally injured when he intentionally flew an airplane into a home he owned in Utah where his wife and adult son were staying.

The Deseret News reports that, according to police in Payson, UT, Duane Youd had been arrested Sunday night on a domestic violence charge. After he was bailed out of jail, Youd, who was described as an "experienced pilot" went to Spanish Fork Airport (KSPK) and took a Cessna Citation 525 jet that belonged to the company for which he worked and to which he had access. He intentionally flew the airplane into the ground in front of the house at about 2:40 a.m. local time Monday, according to according to Payson police Sgt. Noemi Sandoval.

Youd's wife and adult son were inside the home at the time, but they escaped uninjured, Sandoval said.

Photos from the scene show aircraft wreckage in the front yard of the house. There was a post-impact fire, and the structure was engulfed in flames before being extinguished by fire crews, according to the report.
