VLM Airlines Files For Bankruptcy

All Flight Cancelled Immediately

VLM Airlines based in Antwerp, Belgium has filed for bankruptcy after posting a loss of nearly $15 million.

A statement posted on the regional carrier's website told the story. ""We are sorry to have to inform you that VLM Airlines NV has filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday June 22 2016. All flights are cancelled with immediate effect," the statement said.

Buying Business Travel reports that the airline began service in 1993 with an Antwerp-London City Airport route. It was sold to Air France-KLM in 2008 through Cityjet, and its planes were re-liveried in Cityjet colors and carried more than a million passengers a year, operating 500 flights from London City Airport.

VLM became part of INTRO Group in 2014, and was sold again later that year to the management of VLM Airlines.
