Universal Avionics MFD Provides Advanced SA For Alaskan Regional Airline

MFD-890R Integrations Are Now Underway At Avmax For Ravn Alaska Dash 8 Fleet

Universal Avionics MFD-890R Multi-Function Display (MFD) has been selected by Ravn Alaska with integrations currently underway through the Engineering Division at Avmax (Calgary). The advanced MFD system delivers critical flight safety information and weather to Dash 8 operators.

The MFD-890R provides regional airline operators with a package for a previously-unavailable level of weather and terrain, and obstacles awareness. For the growing community of Dash 8/Qs being deployed for special ops, the MFD-890R is Night Vision Goggle (NVG)-compatible and can display video from mission systems and electro-optical and infrared sensors.

“Universal Avionics is working with regionals to provide Multi-Function Displays and a navigation system with high-resolution mapping, traffic, weather and terrain,” said Norm Matheis, Universal Avionics Regional Sales Manager for Canada. “The end of life for the obsolete Primus 800 radar in the Dash 8/Q is driving this today,” he added. “The MFD-890R with a new modern radar provides the basis for a level of SA not available until now for Dash 8/Q operators. The ability to now see the projected flight path with TCAS traffic is a powerful safety tool.”

“The advanced MFD system provides an important level of situational awareness to complement increased navigational performance upgrades available for the Universal Avionics SBAS-FMS onboard the Dash 8/Q Series,” said Robert Kline, Universal Avionics Airline Sales Manager, USA and Latin America. “Operators will be better able to achieve high levels of navigation performance,” he added.

The EFI-890R product family entered service with regional and executive operators in 2004 and the MFD-890R has since been introduced as a stand-alone flight deck MFD.
