Countdown Begins With Two-Week Voting Period
Pilots for Frontier Airlines announced on September 30 that the voting window to authorize a strike action has opened and will close on October 15, a two-week period during which pilots will decide whether or not to approve a strike. The Air Line Pilots Association International (ALPA), who represent the pilots, said approval does not necessarily mean a work stoppage will occur.
With this action, Frontier pilots are taking a stand for a market-based contract to bring pay levels into line with their peers at other airlines. The current contract became eligible for renegotiation in January 2024 and the pilots have been engaged in mediated talks under the Railway Labor Act since March 2024 that so far have not yielded a new collective bargaining agreement that the pilots want.
Capt. Michael Maynard, chair of the Frontier ALPA Master Executive Council said, “Frontier pilots have waited long enough for management to recognize our contribution to Frontier’s success. We will continue to work towards a fair resolution at the bargaining table. However, Frontier pilots are compelled to take this additional step because of management’s unwillingness to provide a contract that reflects our value.”
He continued, “While we have seen progress in a few sections of our contract, we are still far from a comprehensive agreement that our pilots will ratify,” said Maynard. “Our pilots have kept this airline profitable and efficient through challenging times. It is past time for Frontier’s management to acknowledge the work of all Frontier pilots and agree to a collective bargaining agreement the pilots have earned.”
