Aspen Airport Becomes Laptop-Friendly

New Public Wi-Fi Service from Opti-Fi Networks Is Up And Running

Opti-Fi Networks says Wi-Fi service is now available at Aspen-Snowmass Airport, CO, gateway to the scenic Aspen recreation area.

"We are very pleased to offer Aspen's vacationers and business travelers this new wireless access, so they can make better use of their time here," stated Jim Elwood, Aviation Director of Aspen Airport. "Opti-Fi Networks impressed us with their technical proposal and now they have delivered as promised—just in time for our busy season."

Opti-Fi has deployed 802.11B coverage throughout the public areas of the Aspen terminal, including coverage in the airport restaurant and limited coverage in the public parking area. Opti-Fi is also working with the Airport on a private wireless camera application which will allow the Airport to monitor the weather in real time on all parts of its property during the winter season.

Opti-Fi focuses on providing both public and private wireless services for mid-size airports. The private side gives airports their own local networks to use for airport operations, airline operations, and on-site businesses and tenants.

"By providing public and private wireless Opti-Fi Networks offers two solutions in one," stated Robert LeSueur, Opti-Fi Director of Airport Communications. "As a fully-managed service, the Opti-Fi solution takes responsibility off the airport's shoulders for managing the public Internet access. We can also relieve airport IT departments of the need to support multiple wireless enterprises.

"Many airports now are seeing double-digit growth in public Wi-Fi usage from month-to-month. That will certainly continue as more air travelers become regular Wi-Fi service subscribers," said LeSueur.

Opti-Fi Networks manages Wi-Fi access at 18 mid-size North American airports from coast to coast, including: Albany, NY; Aspen, CO; Comox Valley, BC; Des Moines, IA; Edmonton, ALB; El Paso, TX; Greensboro, NC; Hamilton, ON; Jackson Hole, WY; Juneau, AK; Melbourne, FL; Mobile, AL; Newport News, VA; South Bend, IN; Thunder Bay, ON; Toledo, OH; Traverse City, MI; and University Park, PA. The company is currently finalizing contracts with three more additions to its roster. Opti-Fi also provides Wi-Fi access at the Air Tran boarding gate areas of the following airports: BWI, MD; Atlanta Hartsfield, GA; Chicago Midway, IL; Dayton, OH; Flint, MI; Wichita, KS; Memphis, TN; Milwaukee, WIS; and Rochester, NY.
