Marine Flyovers Planned Thursday From MCAS Cherry Point

Military Flyovers To Support Local Healthcare Professionals

2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point will honor healthcare professionals with a flyover across Eastern North Carolina, specifically over Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, Carolina East Medical Center, and Carteret Health Center, around noon on May 7th.

Representatives from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing note that, "This flyover showcases our continued support to those working on the front lines in the fight against COVID-19. We stand with those who have dedicated themselves to ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of all those who need assistance, especially during a time like this.

Residents will be able to observe the tribute from the safety of their own neighborhoods and are asked to practice safe social distancing guidelines.

Semper Fidelis and thank you to those healthcare professionals continuing to put their lives at risk for the sake of the community."

2nd MAW has held a significant role in the Eastern Carolinas for more than 70 years. 2nd MAW has 42 squadrons and more than 15,000 Marines and Sailors based at Cherry Point, MCAS New River, N.C. and MCAS Beaufort, S.C.

The mission of 2nd MAW is to conduct air operations in support of the Fleet Marine Force to include offensive air support, anti-air warfare, assault support, aerial reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and control of aircraft and missiles. As a collateral function, the MAW may participate as an integral component of naval aviation in the execution of such other Navy functions as the Fleet Commander may direct.
