Cameroon Searching For Missing U.S. Pilot

Had Been Flying Cessna 172 From Nigeria To Congo

Authorities in the African country of Cameroon are searching for a pilot who went missing on a flight between Nigeria and Congo Sunday night.

The pilot, Bill Patrick from Chelan in Washington state, last checked in with the control tower at Douala, Cameroon saying he was approaching the airport, according to the Associated Press. But the plane did not land as scheduled.

Patrick was flying for the non-profit African Parks. He was delivering the 172 to the group that was intending to use if for anti-poaching surveillance work in Congo.

The search has been hampered by heavily forested, mountainous terrain. U.S. officials are also participating in the search.

So far, no ELT signal has been received from the aircraft, authorities said.
