AeroSports Update: First Customer Built Panther Sport Flies

Sport Performance Aviation LLC Reports On Their Website That The First Customer Built Panther Sport Took Flight Last Week

Despite the press releases, displays, and prototype aircraft, when a kit-airplane company has their first customer-built kit completed and flying, it’s living proof that their hard work has paid off. Such is the case with Sport Performance Aviation LLC (SPA).

According to the SPA website, The Panther is a single seat, low wing, airplane that features a large cockpit, folding wings and a myriad of features and options for the homebuilder. The Panther is designed as a versatile, mid-sized, single seat low wing sport or LSA aerobatic airplane.

SPA reported that this version of the Panther is referred to as the “Sport version,” and is equipped with the short wing and a Lycoming O-320 engine. The reason they use the term “short wing” is because there are two lengths of wing offered for the aircraft. This aircraft was built by Robert (Bob) Woolley.

It’s reported the first flight lasted 25 minutes and went well. SPA said that In the coming weeks Woolley will be making some small adjustments, like adding pitch to the Whirlwind Ground adjustable propeller, adjusting controls, and inspecting the airframe as his testing continues.

SPA presented Woolley with a plaque in honor of his accomplishment. SPA’s Dan Weseman said “We owe a lot to our first 50 builders. We have learned so much in the past 2 years, and our builders have been very patient along the way, and have given extremely positive feedback. It’s great to see the hard work pay off! We wish Bob (and all our builders) success, Safe flying, and a heartfelt thank you for working with us on the Panther program.”
