Flight 1549 A320 To Be Auctioned

"Miracle On The Hudson" Aircraft On The Block

The Airbus A320 Captain Chesley Sullenburger famously ditched safely in the Hudson River on January 15th, 2009 will be auctioned "As Is/Where Is" from a salvage yard in Kearny, New Jersey.

CNN reports that the airplane's wings have been separated from the fuselage, but will be included in the sale. According to the auction company website, the airplane has  "severe water damage throughout the airframe" and "impact damage to underside of aircraft." The engines are not part of the deal.

Chartis Insurance, US Airways' insurance company is auctioning the airplane. Chartis is a subsidiary of AIG. The sale will be held on March 27th at 1630, and you can bid on the plane, should you be so inclined. The sale is open to the public.

Chartis spokeswoman Marie Ali told CNN the aircraft is being sold "as salvage". While no price guidelines have been reported, a similarly scrapped A310 recently was auctioned for about $2.6 million. A couple of things you should know if you're planning to bid. The bids must be received in writing by the 27th of March, and storage and handling charges will be the responsibility of the buyer.
