Low-Altitude Tests Light Up Phones In Mesa

777-300ER Flights Leave Residents Puzzled

It actually seems lower than it really is. Still, a jumbo jet screaming overhead at about 1200 feet will most certainly get your attention.

So it has in Coolidge (AZ), where Boeing is testing the extended-range aircraft for touch-and-go and go-around demonstrations. Boeing says the flights are necessary for FAA certification of the 777 variant.

Brian Sexton, a spokesman for the Williams Gateway Airport, near Mesa (AZ), said the 777-300ER is conducting four 15-minute daily flights through Monday, between 7:30 a.m. and noon. He added that his office had received between 30 and 40 inquiring phone calls Friday, including one from the Florence Police Department. "We normally don't get that many in a month," Sexton told the Casa Grande Dispatch.
